Now that the dust has settled and the final 53 man roster of the Houston Texans has been decided. It seems there will be a quartet of undrafted rookies on the squad.  Here is some info on the new guys that might help you get a better feel of the type of guys joining the club.

First is Willie Herbert Jefferson III…6ft 6in 234lb. Born Jan 31, 1991 in Beaumont TX.. . Jefferson is raw and his ceiling is sky high. Jefferson started his career as a wide receiver and switched to defensive end after transferring to Stephen F. Austin. Upon hearing rumors that the Texans were interested at the combine he put his focus on learning the OLB position for Wade Phillips’ scheme by watching game film on his own. After being snubbed by all 32 teams draft weekend he became an undrafted free agent(UDFA) for the Texans. Jefferson seems ready to take on whatever role asked “I just feel like athletes make plays,” Jefferson said. “Be out there on the island with a person that’s bigger than me and slower than me, I just gotta have the chance to make a play. When I have the chance to make a play, I’m going to make one.” Time will tell.

Second is Justin DuJian Tuggle… 6ft 3in 247lbs. Born January 4, 1990 in Alpharetta GA… Tuggle started his career at Boston College and played his sophmore season at Blinn College as a QB  prior to transferring to Kansas State and switching to LB. He played inside and outside at K State. So the high ceiling is also a factor as well as his flexibility on the field. He has seen time inside and outside in the preseason so far.

Third is Cierre Marcelle Wood… 5ft 11in 213lbs. born February 21, 1991 in Oxnard CA… Wood played college football at Notre Dame and was roomates with Manti Teo. Wood had a strong preseason and looks to follow in Arian Fosters’ footsteps and make a name for himself as an undrafted running back in a Kubiak system.

Fourth is A.J. Bouye… 6ft 190lbs. Born in Tucker GA. Bouye played his college ball at UCF… A.J. was a long shot to make the team due to the defensive backfield returning most of the players that were here last season. But with a strong showing in camp and making the most of his time when he was on the field he was able to unseat the veteran Roc Charmicheal and take his  spot on the roster. The coaches decided to activate Roc to the practice squad. Bouye was a small school stud who with his playing style made it too hard to cut him.

So this is your introduction to some of the lesser known new faces on the team. Hopefully these guys can come in and make some plays to help us get where we want to be. One thing that is certain is that we have some hunger young bucks that are eager to shine on the big stage… LETS GO TEXANS!!!!!
